Kathmandu weakest among 6 metropolises in performance rating

Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is found to be the weakest in performance evaluation among the 6 metropolitan cities across the country.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has been able to score only 44.97 points based on 17 indicators carried out by the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission. This is the weakest in comparison to the 6 metropolitan cities of the country.

This year, Biratnagar Metropolitan City of Morang is the best. Biratnagar is in the first position with 78.11 points. Lalitpur Metropolitan City is in the second position. It scored 76.33 percent. Bharatpur of Chitwan is in the third position. Bharatpur scored 68.04 points.

Pokhara is in the fourth position with 58.04 points. Birgunj Metropolitan City is in the fifth position with 54 points. Kathmandu is in the sixth position.

The commission had evaluated the local levels in a total of 17 indicators. It states that the budget should not be presented by July 10 and the budget should not be passed by mid-July.

Similarly, in the fiscal year 2081/82 (2081/82), 40 percent of the amount collected from house and land registration fee, entertainment tax and advertisement tax has not been deposited in the Province Consolidated Fund monthly.

It is also considered an indicator that the details including the budget projection for the coming fiscal year have not been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and the budget has not been reviewed and made public by mid-November.

Apart from this, the commission also considers revenue mobilization, budget expenditure status, arrears, use of formula software, student enrollment rate, student retention rate in class 9, female pregnancy test, SEE exam results and proportion of vaccinated children as the basis of evaluation.

There are only four local units in the country that score 80 marks. Most of them are from western Nepal.
