Bright Nepal Party announces to provide one thousand units of shares of hydropower companies to every household

Kathmandu. The Ujyalo Nepal Party, headed by Kulman Ghising, has unveiled its election manifesto on Sunday with an ambitious plan to provide at least 1,000 units of primary shares of the hydropower project to every household. Under the scheme named ‘1,000 units of share campaign’, the government aims to provide direct ownership of hydropower projects to all households of the country.

According to the party’s manifesto, concessional loans will be provided to poor and impoverished families for the purchase of primary shares. It also states that the labour of the workers involved in the construction of the project can be converted into shares.

The manifesto also pledges to establish a ‘People’s Hydropower Fund’. As per the agreement, 20 per cent of revenue collected from hydropower projects will be deposited in the fund after 30 years of the signing of power purchase agreement (PPA). The fund will run programmes related to education, health and employment generation.

The manifesto has set a target to generate 12,000 MW of electricity with the participation of the private sector by 2030 and the per capita consumption will be 800 kilowatt hours. As per the agreement, 15 per cent of the income earned from the export of electricity would be deposited in the National Prosperity Fund and would be spent in the development of rural infrastructure and poverty alleviation.

The long-term target is to generate 25,000 MW of electricity by 2035 and 40,000 MW by 2045. The party aims to establish Nepal as a carbon neutral country.

The manifesto also aims to generate revenue of USD 5 billion annually by exporting electricity to India, Bangladesh and China. It also plans to attract investment in crypto mining and data centers, promote electricity consumption at the local level, and reduce fuel imports. The party has claimed that water resources will be the mainstay of national prosperity.

In its manifesto unveiled with the slogan ‘No talk, no work, no speech, no result’, the party has prioritized changes in the form of governance, corruption control and economic prosperity.
