Kathmandu. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) President Tarique Rahman will be sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh today. Guests from 13 countries, including India, where Sheikh Hasina is sheltering her, have been invited.
The swearing-in ceremony was traditionally held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament complex in Dhaka and not at the presidential palace. According to local media, the swearing-in ceremony of lawmakers will take place at 10 am and the swearing-in ceremony of the prime minister and ministers at 4 pm.
The 13 countries invited by Bangladesh include Nepal, China, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan, UAE, Qatar, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bhutan. The BNP won more than two-thirds of the seats in Thursday’s election.
Bangladesh has a total of 350 seats in the parliament. Of these, 50 seats are reserved for women. The BNP-led alliance won a total of 212 seats.
