Kathmandu. The annual dance season of peacocks has begun. From February to August, male peacocks perform a spectacular dance with their long, colourful, and shiny tails. As they wag their tails, swaying and making a sound like a slight rattling, the sight is one of the most enchanting presentations of nature.

The main purpose of this dance is to attract female peacocks. Male peacocks are very active and vocal during this period, constantly speaking and making their presence felt. The demonstrations continue mostly from dusk to dawn. This process leads to a romantic relationship, where several male peacocks dance in the same area, but the final choice is in the hands of the female peacock.

They choose mates based on factors such as the beauty of the rooster’s tail, the brightness of the color, the duration of the dance, stamina, and the length of the tail. Male peacocks are also more territorial and aggressive during this time. They compete to protect their territory and potential allies. It is a vivid view of love, competition and the constant cycle of life in nature.
