Kathmandu. Chairman of the Election Observation Committee Nepal, Shree Krishna Acharya, has said that the incidents of violation through social media have increased in the elections this time compared to the past. Speaking at a press conference organized on the election of the member of the House of Representatives 2082, Acharya said that the Election Observation Committee Nepal has been directly observing various elections in the country since its establishment in 2070 BS. Stating that various organisations had been carrying out the election observation in their own way in the past, he said this time the National Election Observation Committee and Election Observation Committee Nepal had jointly mobilized the election observers.

He said, “Although the Election Observation Committee Nepal was established in 2070 BS, it has been directly observing all the previous elections. In the past, although different organizations were under the supervision in a slightly different way, this time we had deployed observers jointly from the National Election Observation Committee and the Election Observation Committee Nepal. Since the observers are mobilized separately, the report we will publish, however, the final report will be separate from ours. It will take some time to get ready. ’

According to him, although observers were deputed jointly, they were deployed separately. Therefore, the final report to be prepared by both the organizations will be made public separately and it will take some more time to prepare the report.

Recalling that in the past elections, the activities of the employees of the Election Commission and the Government of Nepal were directly observed in the polling centers, Acharya said that the nature of the election this time has been different.

“The number of violations and activities related to social media in this election is more than in the past,” he said, adding, “We will also make public the data in this regard.” ’

He said that the issues of misinformation, publicity and violation of the election code of conduct spread through social media would be specially incorporated in the analysis of this election.
