Nepali Congress decides to donate Rs 10 million to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund

Kathmandu. The meeting of the Central Work Execution Committee of the Nepali Congress has made public important decisions on the latest flood and landslide crisis of the country, rescue, relief and contemporary issues in the media sector.

A meeting of the party presided over by party president Gagan Kumar Thapa and decided to donate Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives and property in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha districts.

The meeting drew the government’s attention especially to the crisis caused by the Bhotkoshi-Trishuli floods of August 26 and the issues of livelihood of the people.

The NC has urged the government to prioritise the rehabilitation of roads in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts, saying floods and landslides have caused heavy damage to the road network.

The party has also expressed serious concern over the stranding of engineers, workers and other people in the tunnel areas of Upper Trishuli-1, Rasuwagadhi, Langtang Khola, Chilime, Upper Trishuli-3 ‘A’ and Upper Trishuli-3 ‘B’.

The Congress has demanded that the government should make every possible effort to rescue the people trapped in the tunnel as soon as possible. It has also said that arrangements should be made to provide all the treatment of the injured from the state treasury.

The Nepali Congress has said that tunnel rescue should be conducted as a multi-disciplinary technical campaign and not as a general disaster response. The Nepali Congress has said that a clear command system should be developed in coordination with the Nepal Army and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and a separate expert rescue plan should be prepared for each affected tunnel.

The NC has said that along with the experienced technicians and experts in the hydropower sector, international experts and technology should also be used as per the need. It has also demanded that a single official record of the missing and incommunicado should be prepared and regular and verified information should be provided to the families.
