We urge the world community to mitigate and manage the impact of climate change: PM Shah

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that he would call for global cooperation and collaboration in the areas of climate change risk reduction and management.

In his message of best wishes sent during the ‘Gharpajhong Climate Conference’ organized in Mustang, Prime Minister Shah expressed his commitment to draw the attention of the world to address the issues related to mitigation and management of the effects of climate change as it was the common responsibility of the world community.

In a message of best wishes, the Prime Minister expressed his commitment to draw the attention of the world community towards the problems, damage and solution to Nepal’s climate change at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Similarly, he said the PM would draw the attention of the national and international community towards serious impacts of climate change in Nepal’s mountainous, hilly and Tarai areas.

“Melting of our mountains, breaking of glaciers, breaking of glaciers, bursting of mountains, increasing flow of glaciers, drying up of water sources and unprecedented change in weather are some of the problems being faced by all the Nepalis including the mountainous region,” he said.

Expressing happiness over the organization of the ‘Gharpajhong Climate Conference’ in Jomsom of the mountainous district Mustang, he stressed the need of strong collaboration among the federal, province and local level to tackle the impact of climate change.

The two-day conference was inaugurated by Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Gita Chaudhary.

Chiefs of most of the rural municipalities, mayors of municipalities and chiefs of district coordination committees across the country are participating in the conference.

The conference has been seen with importance at a time when extensive preparations are underway for Prime Minister Shah’s address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly as the avalanche caused irreparable loss of life and property in the Trishuli River via Bhotekoshi.
