Govt urges people not to travel long distances, take videos of floods and save crops

Kathmandu. The government has urged all to take necessary precaution as there will be heavy rainfall in many parts of the country from today to Sunday. The Meteorological Department has said that due to incessant rains, the water level in the rivers and streams may rise suddenly, landslides will occur in the hilly areas, inundation in the low areas of the Tarai and excessive snowfall in the mountainous areas.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has requested people not to travel long distances except for essential work. The authority has also asked people not to make TikToks, take videos or collect firewood in the river during floods.

Tourists living in vulnerable areas have been asked to go to safer places immediately and travel agencies not to make new bookings. Similarly, it has been suggested to prevent the entry of whales through roads, lanes, canals and other means leading to the fields, and to make arrangements for drainage in the paddy fields, vegetable gardens and fruit orchards. Meteorologists have urged to take special precautions in the vicinity of rivers and streams and on slopes where there is a risk of landslides.

The government will also provide updated information every hour about the condition of rivers and the risk of possible disasters for three days from tomorrow. The authority has urged to take it seriously as SMS alerts will be sent to the mobile phones of the citizens of the potentially vulnerable areas.

The authority has also said that dozers have been kept on standby on the main highways to open the roads. The authority also said that security agencies across the country have been put on high alert and preparations have been intensified through the Chief District Officers of all 77 districts.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Balendra Shah has urged the bodies concerned to adopt necessary preparedness, coordination and precaution keeping in mind the possible disasters.
