Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has ordered the US President Donald Trump not to implement the fee of one lakh US dollars on new H-1B visas.
Judge Haywood Gilliam of the U.S. District Court in Oakland, California, said the government had not completed the rulemaking process before implementing the tariffs until a final ruling.
Previously, a federal court in Boston temporarily stayed the fee in a lawsuit filed by 20 states. The H-1B visa is a program used by American employers to employ foreign workers with special skills. This visa has been widely used, especially in the technology sector.
The Trump administration raised the tariffs to protect American workers and prevent misuse of the H-1B program. However, employers, business organizations and other groups have challenged the president in court, saying he does not have the authority to unilaterally set such tariffs.
