Labor Department directs workers to provide festive allowances

Kathmandu. The Department of Labor and Occupational Security has directed all employers and establishments to provide compulsory festive expenses to the workers.

The Department has directed the employers to provide the festival expenses compulsorily, saying they have been receiving complaints from some employers for not providing festival expenses.

Clause 37 of the Labour Act-2074 BS states that every worker should be entitled to the amount equivalent to one month’s basic salary as festival expenses every year for the festivals celebrated in accordance with the prevailing religion, culture and tradition.

If the employer or establishment does not provide such facility, the worker or worker who does not receive the facility has requested to file a complaint and application with the Labor and Employment Office or the Department of Labor and Occupational Security.

 

The department has requested for complaints, complaints, and suggestions through email. QR codes have also been arranged for this.

Maninath Gop, spokesperson of the department, said that they have been receiving complaints from some employers and establishments that they have not provided festival expenses. He made it clear that action will be taken against those who are asked to provide such establishments and those who do not provide them.
