We have adequate structures and laws to control corruption: PM Karki

. Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said necessary structure and legal arrangement was adequate to control corruption in the country. Addressing the 35th anniversary of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) here today, she said the CIAA has played a significant role in promoting good governance and controlling corruption.

Prime Minister Karki praised the CIAA for its active and fearless work lately.TAG_OPEN_p_7 She, however, expressed concern over the fact that despite having structures and legal frameworks, corruption has not been reduced comparatively.

“Control of corruption is the first and essential condition for achieving the goals of good governance, development and prosperity in the country,” she said, adding that even the minimum standard of justice and security in the society would be ensured only in a corruption-free situation.TAG_OPEN_p_6 ’

According to Prime Minister Karki, Nepal has reached the final stage of formulating the second strategic plan against corruption in line with the international commitments.TAG_OPEN_p_5 Reminding that there is a provision of a special court for hearing corruption cases, she stressed the need of adopting a zero-tolerance policy.

Recalling the mandate of the Genji movement, Prime Minister Karki clarified that the main responsibility of controlling corruption lies with the government and the executive body.TAG_OPEN_p_4
