Kathmandu. It has been confirmed that there are 80.7 billion cubic meters of mineral gas reserves in Jalajle area of Bhairavi rural municipality-1 in Dailekh district. The final report submitted by the China Geological Survey Company to the Nepal government has mentioned the presence of such a large amount of gas.
According to Dharmaraj Khadka, Spokesperson of the Department of Mines and Geology, the report released after carrying out a detailed study suggests that the gas is much bigger than the initial estimate. Before this, it was estimated that 1.12 billion cubic meters of gas could be found in this area.
However, the Department said that clear information about commercial production and mining capacity would be available only after ‘well testing’. The drilled site will be tested using additional equipment and only then will the process of commercial production proceed.
Nepal and China had signed an agreement to explore petroleum mines with financial and technical support worth Rs 2.40 billion. Currently, the Department is carrying out further study on the final report.
