Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal has said that the government has not been able to pay enough attention to the development of tourism and other sectors in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at the Nepal Tourism Seminar organized by the Tourism Board and Parisunk Media in Lalitpur on Friday, he said that the government has failed to pay full attention to the development while holding the elections on the stipulated date. He, however, pointed out the need to address the policies, programmes and projects of the tourism sector by not limiting the importance of the tourism sector only on paper.

“Although the budget had mentioned that the tourism sector would be given the same facilities as the industries, it has not been completed yet. This government had many challenges from the very beginning. The biggest challenge is the apprehension among the general public in political circles that elections are not possible under any circumstances. Prisoners have escaped from jail. Weapons have been looted. The new generation does not want to see the leaders of the old regime, they do not want to talk.

In such a situation, the challenge was to dispel doubts about how the government could conduct elections. Therefore, while concentrating there, it is certain that some of the commitments made in the current fiscal year have not been able to work on the development of tourism and other sectors. But the importance of the tourism sector should not be limited to paper only, it should be addressed in the policies, programs and projects. ’

Likewise, he said that the responsibility entrusted to the incumbent government was to minimize corruption and maintain good governance.
