Kathmandu. This transitional period is considered to be sensitive from the point of view of health, where the winter season gradually ends and the summer begins. Cold conditions in the morning, warm in the afternoon and dropping temperatures again in the evening make it difficult for the human body to adapt to the environment. For this reason, doctors say that the problems related to various infectious and chronic diseases increase during this time.
During this time, common cold, viral fever, allergies, asthma, skin infections and stomach problems are more common. According to doctors, the rapid fluctuation of temperature weakens the body’s immune system, making it easier for viruses and bacteria to take effect.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with chronic diseases are especially vulnerable to climate change. The ministry has urged all to pay attention to hygiene, nutritious food and rest as the viral infection spreads rapidly especially among school-going children.
What kind of problems do you see more?
1. Viral fever and cold
Dry throat, runny nose, fever and body ache are common due to temperature changes. Crowding and dust can cause the infection to spread quickly.
2. Allergies and asthma
With the onset of spring, the pollen, dust and pollution of the flowers increase, which increases the problem of asthma and allergy patients.
3. Stomach problems
As the weather becomes warmer, the problem of diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach ache can increase due to negligence in diet. Contaminated water and unsafe food are the main reasons for this.
4. Skin infections
Increased sweating can lead to fungal infections, sores, and allergic reactions.
5. Dehydration and fatigue
People still drink less water according to the cold weather, which can lead to dehydration, which can increase fatigue, headaches and weakness.
Physicians’ Suggestions
During climate change, even a small amount of carelessness can spread the infection, and considers personal caution as the most effective safety measure.
Doctors have advised us to wear clothes according to the weather, drink enough water and eat fluid-rich food, eat fruits, vegetables and nutritious food, wear a mask to avoid dust and pollution, protect children and the elderly from the effects of temperature.
According to experts, in a geographically diverse country like Nepal, the impact of climate change is more pronounced. Therefore, they say that this period should be considered as a sensitive period of health management and not just a general change in weather.
Doctors have concluded that the risk of infection can be reduced to a great extent if health awareness, hygiene and timely treatment are adopted.
