Kathmandu. Independent candidate from Myagdi, Dr. Mahabir Pun has been elected to the House of Representatives.
According to the Office of the Chief Election Officer, he was elected with 22,850 votes. His nearest rival Hari Krishna Shrestha of CPN (UML) got 7,919 votes. The counting of votes has been completed.
The Office of the Chief Election Officer is yet to make a formal announcement. He had come to his birthplace to contest the election. He has come to contest the election by putting forward the issue of taking initiatives at the policy level for the improvement of the education sector. He has mentioned in the commitment letter that a policy will be made to provide voting rights to Nepali citizens living abroad.
Karna Bahadur Bhandari of the Nepali Congress got 6,884 votes and Arjun Thapa of the Communist Party of Nepal got 3,529 votes. Out of 86,397 voters in Myagdi, 46,215 votes were cast.
