State failed to do enough for leprosy victims: Minister Sinha

Kathmandu. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar Sinha has apologized on behalf of the Government of Nepal, admitting that the state has not been able to do enough to deal with the leprosy patients.

Addressing the 28th International Day of Dignity and Dignity here today, Sinha said although leprosy is a health problem, its social, psychological and economic impact is even more serious.

“Though leprosy is a health problem, its impact is increasing. We should have done what you have experienced and not enough to go through complex processes and complex situations that affect the affected people socially, psychologically, and economically. For this, I would like to apologize on behalf of the Government of Nepal. He apologized on behalf of the government saying that the state has not been able to address the complex conditions and sufferings of the people affected by leprosy.

Minister Sinha said that the people affected by leprosy have been continuously raising their voice for their rights and dignity in their daily lives and this voice should be respected. According to him, such voice is expanding as a collective movement not only in Nepal but across the world, of which this program is an example.

“People affected by leprosy are raising their voice for their rights and dignity in their daily lives. That voice has been respected. It is becoming a collective voice not only in Nepal but all over the world. Today’s program is also an example of this. ’

He said that although leprosy is a health problem that can be cured, the affected people are still facing problems due to anti-social aversion and discrimination towards the disease. Stating that it was necessary to improve social behavior, he said that it should start from education.

“Although leprosy is a preventable health problem, it is necessary to improve the social behaviour that we have towards each other due to anti-social neglect towards leprosy,” he said. It starts with education. ’
