Kathmandu. Senior doctor Dr Gauri Shankar Lal Das and senior ophthalmologist Dr Ram Prasad Pokharel have been honoured with the ‘Dr Dilli Raman Regmi National Peace Prize-2082’ presented by the Dilli Raman-Kalyani Regmi Memorial Library Development Committee.
Likewise, Dr Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Prize 2026 was presented to Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel handed over the prizes amidst a special function on Monday. The National Peace Prize carries a purse of one hundred thousand rupees and the international award carries attractive gifts reflecting Nepal’s culture along with letter of felicitation.
Dr. Gauri Shankar Lal Das has been actively contributing to the medical science, public health, health policy and humanitarian service for a long time.
Dr. Ram Prasad Pokharel has played an important role in the development of ophthalmology in Nepal, expansion of modern eye care services and establishment and strengthening of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh.
Awarded by the International Award, KOICA has been providing long-term support to Nepal in the areas of education, health, good governance, information technology, technical and vocational education, disaster management, and institutional capacity building, among others.
On the occasion, Prof Dr Mohan Lohani, Prof Dr Jayaraj Acharya and Prof Dr Prem Kumar Khatri were honoured with the ‘Token of Maya’ in recognition of their contribution in the field of education and social service.
The program was presided over by Chairperson of the Library Development Committee, Prof. Dr. Bina Poudel, and member Chandra Kiran Shrestha briefed about the activities of the organization.
The committee has so far presented the award 12 times. The award, established in the name of historian, thinker and politician Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi, has been honoring individuals and organizations contributing to peace, humanity and development at national and international level.
