Hearing on Bishnu Poudel’s habeas corpus writ

Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The House of Representatives has assigned the hearing on the habeas corpus writ petition filed by CPN (UML) vice-chair and former finance minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel. A division bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Nityananda Pandey is conducting the hearing.

Poudel’s wife Domaya Poudel had filed a habeas corpus petition at the court on June 23, stating that Poudel was kept in jail illegally. Earlier, a division bench of Justices Tek Prasad Dhungana and Meghraj Pokharel had ordered the government to bring the file related to money laundering case against the plaintiff and Deepak Bhatta, which is sub-judice at the Special Court.

Similarly, the High Court Patan had also asked the Patan High Court to summon the file related to the banking offense case against Deepak Bhatta as a defendant. The apex court had ordered the court to produce the original files of two separate cases involving Ashish Shrestha and Ashish Shrestha and Sulav Agrawal and Dipak Bhatta defendants in the case related to shares.

Poudel was arrested from Surkhet on June 22 on the charge of money laundering and was produced before the Special Court Kathmandu on June 9. The Special Court on Monday had remanded Poudel to judicial custody for three more days for further investigation into the case.
