Kathmandu. CPN (UML) lawmaker Rajendra Kumar Rai has urged the government not to sack employees on contract basis and temporary employees.

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Minister Khatiwada drew the attention of the government to secure their employment while talking to the contractual and temporary employees gathered in front of the Ministry of Finance.

He said, “Yesterday, in front of the Ministry of Finance, many employees were gathering and discussing. I was curious that when I asked what had happened, they said that our lives were over. We are serving the state and the people as contract and temporary employees. The new government is talking about expelling us saying that they have come to build the country. This has created a situation where our lives are going to be ruined. If we have to leave this place, it will be a big problem. ’

Lawmaker Rai urged the government through the Speaker not to remove the contractual and temporary employees, saying they had been in service for a long time.

“I want to appeal to the incumbent government through the Speaker, they should not be expelled,” he said. This is where their lives have been spent. The situation becomes even more complicated if we begin to expel our brothers who are already working abroad in search of employment. ’

Giving the example of problems arising out of the removal of landless squatters in the past without adequate preparations, he warned that the decision to remove temporary employees could lead to a similar problem.

“It has become a big problem now as the squatters were evicted without preparation yesterday. The government is struggling to solve this problem. Similarly, if we remove temporary employees, the problem will be even more complicated,” he said.
