FIFA to earn $15 billion from World Cup

Kathmandu. The FIFA World Cup 2026 has brought a record financial success for the World Football Federation (FIFA). FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the tournament had grossed about $15 billion. That’s significantly higher than the $11 billion estimate made before the tournament began.

According to information provided by FIFA to member countries’ football associations, revenue from ticket sales, hospitality packages and ticket sales in secondary markets has increased more than expected. FIFA charges 15 percent each from both buyers and sellers when buying and selling tickets in the secondary market.

After this record income, member football associations around the world are expected to receive additional financial support. However, FIFA has not yet made a final decision on how much and on what basis the money will be distributed.

For FIFA president Infantino, who has been embroiled in controversy over the World Cup, the financial achievement is seen as a major success.

He already has the backing of more than 200 member states ahead of the election for president in March. Many member associations, which are expecting additional grants due to the huge revenue from the World Cup, have not yet publicly expressed their displeasure.

At the same time, the economic success of the World Cup has also strengthened the possibility of the United States hosting the World Cup again in the future. The bidding process for hosting the 2038 World Cup will be opened soon.

US President Donald Trump has also said that the United States is interested in hosting the World Cup again. In an event, he said that the United States wants to host the World Cup again and this time Canada and Mexico will not be co-hosts.
