Caution urged to be taken during monsoon period to avoid disaster

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged the people to adopt special precaution during the monsoon period as there are high risks such as flood, landslide, inundation, lightning and snakebite.

The authority has urged one and all to take precaution for the safety of life and property and to know the weather and condition of roads before travelling. Similarly, one has been advised to be cautious and take precaution while traveling during the rainy season.

The NRA has urged the people not to travel during the night when there is heavy rain and not to try to cross the rivulets, rivulets and rivers during the floods.

The NRA has also drawn the attention of the people not to go to the rivulets or rivers for collecting timber, fishing or swimming in the rainy season and not to move unnecessarily around the areas where there is a risk of landslides.

People have been urged not to take photos or videos from standing on the banks of risky bridges or rivulets, not to go out alone in hiking or trekking as far as possible, to travel to safer places and contact local administration and security personnel if there are signs of a disaster.

Similarly, it is important to keep the drains and drains around your house clean, keep the surroundings clean during the rainy season, and use a torch light while walking out at night.

In case of lightning, the authority has urged people to go to a safe place immediately, keep important documents, essential medicines, food items safe in a bag, keep adequate balance on mobile and charge the battery.

They have also been warned not to follow rumours, to believe only information received from official sources and to regularly listen to and watch official information on weather and disaster. For disaster-related information and rescue, the police have been requested to contact 1234, 100 and 1114 and for weather information 1155.

This year’s monsoon has already started from June 5. The NRA has been requesting all to adopt precaution and to prevent big loss of life and property due to the disaster.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 47 incidents of natural disasters have been reported across the country. According to the NRA, the loss due to the disaster is estimated at Rs 13.10 lakh. Three people were killed and eight others injured in the disaster.

A total of 8÷8 incidents of snakebite and fire have been reported from August 20 to the morning of July 20. Similarly, two incidents of floods, 14 incidents of landslide, eight incidents of incessant rain, three incidents of animal attack and one incident of storm were reported.
