Industry Minister Gauri Yadav directs strict ban on counterfeit products

Kathmandu. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Yadav has directed the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection to stop the sale and distribution of counterfeit products in the market.

Following the directive of Minister Yadav, the department has intensified the market monitoring and seized more than one hundred suspicious fake products. Currently, these products are being tested in the laboratory for their quality and originality, according to the Department.

Stating that any kind of carelessness in the sale and distribution of fake products would not be tolerated, Minister Yadav directed the Department to make market monitoring more effective. She also directed them to take stern action as per the law if found guilty.

Director General of the Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection Moti Sapkota said that the Department was regularly monitoring the market as it has been receiving information that some counterfeit products are still being sold in the market.

According to him, laboratory tests are underway on the seized products. Necessary legal process will be initiated against the related products on the basis of the test report. The department has also urged the consumers to inform the concerned body if they see suspicious or fake products.

Stating that those playing with the health of consumers and selling and distributing fake products in the market would be punished as per the law, Minister Yadav said the government was committed to making the market clean, safe and systematic.
