Kathmandu. The government has urged all government agencies to give priority to the use of domestic products and services.
In the direction of Prime Minister Balendra Shah, it has been urged to ensure the full implementation of the provision in all government offices being subject to the existing legal provisions regarding public procurement.
Issuing a press release on Wednesday, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers urged the federal ministries, commissions, secretariats, provincial governments, municipalities and Nepali diplomatic missions abroad to give priority to Nepali products in their procurement process.
According to the office, the government has taken this initiative to strictly follow the existing legal provisions with the objective of increasing the contribution of domestic production to the national economy, to promote domestic production by replacing the increasing imports, to protect local skills and enterprises and to create employment in the country.
As far as possible, Nepali handicraft products should be used in government office meetings, ceremonies, koseli, gifts and decoration materials.
Similarly, domestic production should be given first priority while purchasing stationery, printing materials, furniture, furnishing goods, construction materials, machinery tools and equipment, agricultural and livestock products and food and beverages.
In addition, the public bodies should mention the issue of giving priority to domestic production while preparing the tender documents.
