Baburam Bhattarai urges govt to monitor social media spreading misinformation

Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister Dr. Former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has urged the government to keep a check on social media spreading misinformation.

“We heartily appeal to the general public to remain alert of the misleading, distorted, threatening and hateful content that is being spread with the intention of disturbing religious and social harmony,” he said.

He said this while issuing a serious letter of attention. We also request the Government of Nepal to keep a close watch on the individuals and groups involved in such activities and the social media accounts they are using, carry out necessary investigations and take strict action as per the prevailing laws. ’

According to him, the state should make effective legal intervention in any activities that affect someone’s religious faith, personal security, dignity and social harmony while respecting freedom of expression and ideology.

“The need of the hour is to protect religious freedom, freedom of thought, scientific consciousness, social justice and tolerance and discourage attempts to spread hate, violence and division,” he added. ’

In recent times, some self-motivated individuals and groups have used the religious beliefs of the majority of Hindus to fulfill their political interests. Baburam Bhattarai’s secretariat has issued such a letter accusing him of trying to portray him as anti-Hindu.

“Serious attention has been drawn to the distorting of old videos and expressions, making misleading pictures and posters on social media and spreading religious hatred and social division,” reads the letter.

“The essence of secularism is that the state should treat all religions and beliefs equally, and to ensure that every citizen has the freedom to profess his religion or not. ’

“It is a matter of every individual’s freedom of thought to believe in science, adopt a scientific viewpoint or be an atheist and it is totally inappropriate to present it as an act against any religion or religious community,” the statement reads.

KATHMANDU: The committee has drawn the attention of the government to the fact that some Hindu groups have made the recent debate on caste system, caste-based discrimination and social inequality within the Hindu religion a subject of prejudice.

Questioning the social practices within any religion, culture or tradition, holding critical debates and raising voice for reforms is a natural process of a democratic society. ’

Dr. “It is irresponsible political and social behavior to present the views and expressions of former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai through distorted and misleading interpretation of the old material,” the statement reads.

More recently, it has been objected to the posting of threatening and fear-mongering content by some individuals and by some bourgeoisie to systematically engage in context setting and misleading narratives. Such activities not to be taken as mere propaganda as such activities could have serious impact not only on the security and dignity of the person but also on religious tolerance, social harmony and national unity, the statement reads.
