Prithvi Highway halted, mud piled up on road continues

Kathmandu. Traffic has not been able to resume on the roads affected by the massive floods in the Bhotekoshi River. Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, information officer of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, said that the road has been obstructed due to the floods in various areas of the Prithvi Highway.

According to him, the condition of the Prithvi highway leading to Rasuwa and Muglin-Chitwan via Naubise has been affected for the time being. He said that the traffic police will issue an official notice once the road is cleared and the traffic is operational.

However, the passengers who were stranded in the Thankot area after the floods have been sent back to Kathmandu. Subedi said that they are staying at their relatives’ houses under their own management. He said that arrangements have been made to stay safely in Kathmandu instead of going to the middle of the road and being at risk.

The police are also coordinating with the transport entrepreneurs. Subedi said that the transport entrepreneurs have issued a circular to their members to operate vehicles only on the basis of the official information of the traffic police after getting information about the latest condition of the road.

BP Highway in operation

BP Highway is in operation as an alternative route. Similarly, small vehicles are being operated on the roads towards Pharping. However, heavy vehicles cannot be operated on those roads and the provision of permission and route permit will also be applicable, Subedi said.

He said that small vehicles like Tata Sumo are operating from Pharping. According to the police, the condition of the road is being continuously monitored and a decision will be taken in coordination with the concerned authorities and transport entrepreneurs.
