Nearly Rs 12 crore grant to Jenji martyr’s family

. The government is set to provide a grant of around Rs 120 million to the families of 42 people who died and were declared martyrs during the Zenji movement. A proposal of Rs 11.90 crore has been sent to the Ministry of Finance for the ‘Jenji Martyr Family Welfare Society’.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on January 7 had decided to provide the necessary amount to run welfare programmes for the families of martyrs.TAG_OPEN_p_7 According to a source at the ministry, a draft of the programme along with the amount to be distributed to the families of the martyrs was submitted to the Ministry of Finance on Monday.

According to sources, although it was initially decided to provide the subsistence allowance as per the prevailing law, the cabinet meeting decided to provide the subsidy amount after the demand for the same facilities as the employees.TAG_OPEN_p_6

76 people were killed in the Genji protests on September 23 and 24. The government had declared 42 of them as martyrs.

The government is preparing to provide Rs 21,TAG_OPEN_p_4 800 per month to the families of 42 martyrs for 10 years. This includes 13 months of benefits along with annual festival allowance. According to the ministry, a total of Rs 11,90,28,000 will be spent to provide this facility to 42 families.
