NC General Secretary Poudel outlines 15-point economic reform concept

. Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Pradeep Poudel has unveiled a 15-point plan for economic reform in the country. Stating that the party was now determined to not only dream dreams but also to change the operating system to convert those dreams into results, he put forth his views on the policies required for improvement of economy and prosperity.

General Secretary Poudel stressed the need to take the country from distribution-oriented and dependent economy to production-oriented, self-reliant and saving-oriented economy.TAG_OPEN_p_11 He argues that systemic reform is necessary for this.

According to Poudel, instead of individualistic politics, an institutional and strong system should be built to ensure the convenience of the citizens.TAG_OPEN_p_10 He was of the view that the export of intellectual capital and knowledge should be shifted from traditional labour and sweat export to knowledge-based economy.

He said that there is a need to democratize opportunities to connect small entrepreneurs, youth and talents from remote areas to the world market through the use of TAG_OPEN_p_9 technology. He suggested that universities should be transformed into “centres of research and invention” by integrating education, banking, law and foreign policy.

General Secretary Poudel stressed on the need of reinstating the acts obstructing development and investment through the Supreme Umbrella Act to remove legal hurdles, rectify the lack of coordination and administrative dilly-dallying among the ministries through fast-track service and arrange for a special tribunal to resolve the legal disputes related to industry, business and investment soon.TAG_OPEN_p_8

}He argued that the role of the state should be an impartial arbiter in the economy, not a player. He also pointed out that equal opportunities, competition for results, equal access to education and health should be ensured under the democratic socialism of the 21st century.

General Secretary Poudel also presented the views of digital economy, promotion of startups, direct benefit to consumers through the mobility of the private sector, economic diplomacy and bringing in foreign investment, as well as connecting the knowledge, skills and capital of Nepali Diaspora for nation building.TAG_OPEN_p_6
