. KATHMANDU: The District Election Office, Kathmandu has expressed serious concern over the breach of voters’ privacy by asking the general public and voters who they will vote for through social media and some online media.
The Election Office has urged all concerned not to carry out such activities that violate the privacy of the voters, drawing the attention of all to follow the election code of conduct.TAG_OPEN_p_7 Stating that such activities were violated as per Clause 4 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, such activities have been warned to stop immediately.
According to the office, after the publication of the final list of candidates, the election campaign can be done only 17 days before the polling day.TAG_OPEN_p_6 During the period, rallies, mass meetings, corner meetings, publication or broadcast of publicity materials through the media and door-to-door programmes can be organized.
However, the Election Office has drawn the attention of the Election Commission not to carry out such activities as it has been reported that activities of influencing the voters are taking place by organizing corner meetings before the stipulated time, publishing and disseminating publicity materials and conducting door-to-door programmes.TAG_OPEN_p_5
The District Election Office, Kathmandu has made it clear that immediate action would be initiated as per the prevailing law if any evidence of the election campaign was found violating the election code of conduct.TAG_OPEN_p_4
