Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has reminded that the revolution of 2007 BS was not only a change of regime but also a declaration of self-respect, rights and self-respect of Nepali people. In her address to the main function of the National Democracy Day 2082 on the occasion of the 76th Democracy Day today, President Bhandari said that the revolution of 207 BS made citizens citizen from the tenants was a great day.
“The revolution of 2007 was not just a regime change. It was a declaration of self-respect, rights and self-respect of the Nepali people. Falgun 7 of the same year was a great day to make us citizens from the tenants. The political revolution of 2007 BS is also the foundation of today’s federal democratic republic of Nepal,” she said.
Pointing out that we should introspect while celebrating the Democracy Day, Prime Minister Karki said, “Although equality is written in the constitution, there is still discrimination and inequality in practice. She pointed out that the people were dissatisfied with the dominance of a limited group in power, the monopoly of resources and the unequal exercise in the state structure. Citing the example of the youth-led ‘Genji Movement’ in September 23-24, she said that it is necessary to seize the voice of dissent as an opportunity for reform, not to suppress it.
“Democracy is not just a process but a result-oriented system and this should be reflected in the lives of ordinary people,” she said. “The protests led by the Genji youths on September 23 and 24 were a question on the structure that failed to listen to the grievances of the people,” she said. The movement seeks an end to corruption, nepotism and discrimination. We want good governance and equity. The state should not only be generous but also polite and conscientious. ’
The Prime Minister shared that preparations were underway to hold this year’s election to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 21 in a free, fair, peaceful and fear-free environment. She expressed her confidence that the upcoming parliament and government would make democracy more vibrant, result-oriented and accountable to the people.
