Two more arrested for fake rescue

Kathmandu. Two more people have been arrested for their involvement in a ‘fake rescue’ at the mountaineering area.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested Sandip Tiwari, 28, a representative of Royal Holidays Adventure and Travel Company based in Thamel and former vice-president of Airlines Operators Association, 56, Rajendra Bahadur Singh.

Singh of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-31 was arrested today while Tiwari of Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality-2 of Dhading was arrested on Tuesday.

Spokesperson of the bureau, Shiva Kumar Shrestha, said that so far nine people including employees of trekking companies, rescue companies, hospitals, employees of foreign insurance companies and promoters of helicopter companies have been arrested.

According to the Bureau, the accused claimed insurance money and took financial benefits illegally by pretending to rescue foreign tourists who were in health problems while trekking in high mountainous areas.
