Kathmandu. Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) candidate from Siraha-3 has been arrested.
Police arrested him with cash in the middle of the night during the silence period.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramesh Pal of District Police Office, Siraha, five persons including Yadav were arrested at 12:30 midnight last night.
The arrestees have been identified as Shyam Kumar Yadav, Ram Pravesh Yadav, Birendra Kumar Yadav and jeep driver Jitendra Mahato of Bishnupur rural municipality-5.
The incident took place on the Nepal-India border. The vehicle (2-02-001 Cha 087) was stopped by police at around 12.30 am at Shivachowk of Siraha during a joint check.
DSP Pal said that Rs 4.87 lakh cash was recovered from the vehicle.
Police said they also found ballot papers in the vehicle.
All the arrested have been kept at the District Police Office. DSP Pal said that preparation was underway to send it to the office of the Chief Election Officer today for necessary action.
As per Clause 23 of the Election Commission Act, 2073 BS, a fine of up to Rs 100,000 or candidacy can be scrapped if a candidate violates the election code of conduct during the silence period.
