Kathmandu. With the counting of votes for the House of Representatives elections nearing the final phase, preparations have begun for the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected lawmakers and the Parliament session. As per the constitutional provision, a session of the parliament has to be summoned within 30 days of the declaration of final results of the election. However, the permanent hall for holding meetings and swearing-in ceremonies for the upcoming parliament is not yet fully ready.
The swearing-in ceremony of lawmakers will be held before the session. The senior-most member will first take oath of office and secrecy from the President and then administer the oath of office to other lawmakers.
At present, there is no permanent building available to hold the parliament meetings. After the fire broke out in the parliament building during the “Gen Z” movement, the situation has come to arrange for an alternative place to conduct regular meetings. As an alternative to this, preparations are being made to temporarily manage the multipurpose hall inside the new parliament building that is under construction in the Singha Durbar premises. Spokesperson of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Ekram Giri, said that the construction of the hall has reached the final stage and it is expected to be completed within a few weeks.
Meanwhile, the Federal Parliament Secretariat has planned to conduct a two-day orientation programme to enhance the capacity of the newly elected parliamentarians. According to Spokesperson Giri, the training will mainly focus on practical issues including the law-making process and how to raise questions in the parliament.
