Proportional representation (PR) MPs to be given certificate on Thursday

Kathmandu. The Election Commission (EC) is to distribute certificates to the lawmakers elected under the proportional representation (PR) system on March 5. According to Krishna Bahadur Raut, election officer of the proportional representation system, the certificates of the election will be distributed at the EC premises at 11.30 am on March 18.

The Election Commission (EC) has announced the election of the candidates selected by the political parties. The EC has asked the members elected from political parties to provide original citizenship certificate or national identity card and two copies of passport size photo along with details of the House of Representatives.

Six different political parties have been recognised as national parties in the election to the House of Representatives held on March 4. Under the proportional representation system, Rastriya Swatantra Party has won 57 seats, Nepali Congress 20, CPN (UML) 16, Nepali Communist Party nine, Labour Culture Party four seats and Rastriya Prajatantra Party four seats.

In the 275-member House of Representatives, 165 members will be elected through the first-past-the-post electoral system and 110 through the proportional representation system. This time’s election process will get completion after the Election Commission distributes certificates to the candidates for the proportional representation system.
