Kathmandu. The Ghode Jatra festival is being celebrated today. Every year, Ghode Jatra is celebrated in Kathmandu Valley on the day of Chaitra Krishna Aunsi.
The Nepal Army is scheduled to demonstrate horse sports, motorcycle sports, physical exercise and martial arts at Tundikhel today.
It is believed that the Ghode Jatra is celebrated as a tradition of being trampled by a horse’s hooves after a demon named Gurumapa who lives in the east-south direction of Tundikhel torments the children of the city.
On this day in Lalitpur, there is a tradition of racing a horse to celebrate the Horse Jatra.
The government has declared a public holiday in the Kathmandu Valley today.
