Motion to reject Gagan Thapa’s resignation

Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress (NC) Central Committee meeting has presented a preliminary review report on the party’s defeat in the House of Representatives elections held on March 4 due to extreme factionalism and frustration.

Presenting a preliminary review of the meeting, Vice-President Bishwa Prakash Sharma said that the party had to face defeat due to extreme factionalism and resentment. He said that extreme factionalism and resentment were the main reasons for the defeat.

He said that such a picture of factionalism is present in all the parties, which has created disgust among the voters. He also said that the party’s ignoring of some legitimate voices has made the election results unfavorable.

A central committee meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) has been held on Friday to discuss and decide on the party’s defeat in the March 4 elections and the resignation of party president Gagan Thapa.

On the occasion, Sharma had decided to reject Thapa’s resignation. He said that Thapa’s resignation would not be accepted with seven reasons.

According to him, it would not be fair to the party president to resign from his post after overcoming adversity.

“It is reasonable and unfair to anyone to seek the outcome of the victory of the party in a short period of fifty days after the arrival of the new leadership of the party through the special general convention,” he said. ’

Vice-president Sharma has also revealed seven reasons for his resignation. Though the NC could not emerge victorious as the number one party in the elections, he said it was a victory for the party’s core policy. He said that it was not surprising that the election results were not favorable in the midst of adverse conditions.

After the report was submitted, it was informed that Thapa’s resignation from the post was rejected by the central working committee meeting. Joint General Secretary Bahadur Singh Lama said that Thapa’s resignation has been rejected.

The meeting concluded at 8:00 am on Sunday, said central committee member Ajaya Babu Shiwakoti.
