Kathmandu. The unseasonal rain that occurred for two days has damaged raw bricks worth around nine crores. Deepak Adhikari, vice-chairperson of Brick Entrepreneurs Association Lumbini Province and proprietor of PBC Brick Industry in Banke, said that the incessant destroyed raw bricks worth Rs 87.5 million.
According to him, around five lakh raw bricks have been destroyed in one industry alone due to unseasonal rain. Entrepreneurs Adhikari said that 35 million raw bricks were destroyed in 70 brick factories in the district, causing loss worth Rs 87.5 million.
A raw brick costs Rs 2.50, the official said. According to entrepreneurs, most of the bricks that were recently prepared in Khulachaur have turned into mud after getting wet with water. Traders in Banke said the snowfall in Karnali has caused huge loss to the local entrepreneurs.
Chairperson of Brick Industries Entrepreneurs’ Association, Banke, Dev Bahadur KC said the industrialists in the district have to bear heavy losses every year due to unseasonal rainfall.
He lamented that the government neither provides insurance nor compensation for raw bricks, which has caused a lot of trouble to the entrepreneurs.
