Kathmandu. A photo exhibition has kicked off at ‘Umoja Coffee’ in New Baneshwor, focusing on the struggle of women of Gatlang village in Ama Chhodingmo Rural Municipality-3 of Rasuwa district. A total of 16 photos taken by photojournalist Keshav Raj Thokar have been featured in the exhibition titled ‘Struggle of Women of Gatlang’.

The main objective of the exhibition is to highlight the hard work, struggle and contribution of rural women. The two-day exhibition was inaugurated with the chief guest Buchung Tamang, Chairman of Ama Chhodingmo Rural Municipality. Gatlang village, home to about 600 households from the Tamang and Dalit communities, is known for its agriculture, livestock and tourism-based lifestyle. Women, in particular, play an important role in everything from household chores to animal husbandry, farming and wool to radipakhi production.

Born in Dolakha, Thokar has been active in photojournalism for the past two decades. He started his journey with ‘Nepal Samacharpatra’ and worked in ‘Nagarik Daily’ and other media outlets. He is currently working as a freelancer. He has published a photo book titled ‘Life in Pandemic’, which depicts the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Thokar aims to highlight the hidden issues in the society through his photo stories. “I will continue to present the voices of the voiceless through visual stories,” he said.
