Ministry of Education communicates with local government and Ministry of Home Affairs on irregularities in admission fees

Kathmandu. The government has decided to make coordination between the federal and local levels effective for the improvement of the school sector. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is holding discussion with the local government and stakeholders regarding the student admission and fee dispute for this purpose.

According to the Ministry, the Ministry is scheduled to hold discussions with mayors of Kathmandu Metropolitan cities and high-level government officials on Monday.

Discussions have been organized to prepare the annual academic calendar and future strategy regarding the confusion seen on student admission and fees against the criteria as the academic session is about to begin. The people’s representatives have been called together to discuss the irregularities in student admission fees and the latest activities of the private schools.

Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dhangol, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan, President of Municipalities Association of Nepal and President of National Association of Rural Municipalities are also taking part in the meeting.

The Ministry had recently directed the schools to return the fees collected illegally after complaints were received that some institutional schools were enrolling students before the start of the academic session 2083 and charging more than the approved fees.

The federal government had directed the schools to start school admissions from April 23 and start classes from May 21. However, the local levels of Kathmandu Valley had directed to start a new admission campaign from April 24 and to start regular classes from April 29.
