Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Foreign tourist arrivals to Nepal in April 2026 were less than expected. According to the statistics made public by the Nepal Tourism Board, 107,934 tourists visited Nepal during the month, which is a decline in comparison to the same period last year.
According to the statistics, 116,490 tourists visited in April 2025, while 109,399 tourists arrived in April 2019, before the pandemic. This indicates that the tourism sector, which is in the process of resurgence, has not yet fully stabilized.
Regionally, the highest number of 33,432 tourists (31 percent) are from South Asia (SAARC). It is followed by 26,726 from other Asian countries, 21,988 from Europe, 5,898 from Oceania, 2,518 from America, 1,697 from West Asia, 315 from Africa and 15,360 from other countries.
Domestically, India is the first source market, followed by China and Bangladesh. A total of 15,196 tourists from India, 11,722 from China and 5,231 from Bangladesh visited Nepal.
According to experts, rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia, disruptions in flights and lack of international promotion have affected tourist arrivals in recent years.
In order to revive the tourism sector, there is a need to strengthen digital marketing, promote effectively in the international market and brand Nepal as a safe and attractive destination.
