Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The road section from Narayan Gopal Chowk to the Slipper Factory under the Kathmandu Ring Road has been seen in a tidy and well-managed manner.

With the completion of the expansion of the 700-meter road, the work of lane marking, zebra crossing and road demarcation has also been completed. Smooth blacktopped roads, well-managed lanes and clean structures have made this section attractive.

This section has been constructed from the budget allocated under the plan to expand the road from Maharajgunj to Dhobikhola (Gopikrishna). The government of Nepal has constructed the road from Kalanki to Basundhara in the second phase of the Ring Road expansion project.

The Division Road Office, Minbhawan had signed an agreement with M-S Ambuja-Kali SK JV in 2081 BS to complete the project by Ashad 2082. However, the construction work was completed almost a year late than the scheduled time. The government had allocated Rs 250 million for the construction of the road in the current fiscal year.

The road has been expanded as per the criteria of the Kalanki-Koteshwor section of the Ring Road. The 10.39 kilometers road section was expanded with Chinese assistance and handed over to Nepal in January 2018. Though Nepal and China have signed an agreement to expand the road from Kalanki to Basundhara under the second phase, the construction process is yet to move forward.

At present, works are being carried out in different sections under the Ring Road Expansion Project. The government has forwarded a plan to modernize and widen the Ring Road with the objective of managing the increasing traffic pressure in the Kathmandu Valley. The completion of the Narayangopal Chowk-Chappal Karkhana road section is expected to ease traffic management in Maharajgunj area.
