Govt issues show-cause order on Durga Prasai’s habeas corpus writ

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show-cause order in the name of the government in response to the habeas corpus petition filed by medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai. A single bench of Justice Nripa Dhwaj Niraula issued the order in the name of the defendants, seeking cause cause in the writ petition filed by Prasai.

Hearing the writ petition filed by Prasai’s wife Uma Prasai, the court has ordered Prasai to furnish a written reply within 24 hours explaining the grounds and reasons why Prasai should not be issued the same. The response has been asked to be submitted through the Attorney General’s Office.

The court also directed the Bhaktapur District Police Range to present the belongings seized during the search of Prasain’s house on August 4 before the court on the next hearing.
