‘New programme of scientific socialism needed’: Jhalanath Khanal

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Respected leader of the Communist Party of Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, has said that a ‘scientific socialist programme with Nepali characteristics’ was needed to take the Nepali communist movement ahead as per the new phase of socialist revolution.

In his address to a book release program organized on the occasion of the 102nd birth anniversary of founding leader of communist movement Pushpalal Shrestha on Monday, he said the socialist revolution could not be accomplished on the basis of new democratic revolution.

Khanal pointed out the need for the communist movement to chart a new line of action as time, the main contradiction of the society, friends and enemies of revolution and the international situation have all changed.

“It is difficult for us to complete the socialist revolution without developing this party as a party,” he said. Now, the era of socialist revolution has begun. Therefore, it is imperative to move forward the debate on what is the program of the next revolution. That debate is about what is the program of the next revolution.

Can we complete the next revolution by taking the programs of the New Democratic Revolution? Of course we couldn’t. Times have changed. The nature of the revolution has changed. The main contradiction of society has changed. The enemies and friends of the revolution have changed. The international situation is also undergoing major changes.

In this context, it has now become necessary for us to take forward the program of socialist revolution and transformation from a new perspective. And that is the program of scientific socialism. ’

According to him, his book ‘Scientific Socialism or Multiparty Democracy’ authored by him represents this ideological debate. He was of the view that time has come for the communist forces of Nepal to stand together and announce a common programme of scientific socialism.

Khanal said that according to the Marxist theory of dialectical materialism, any thing or institution in the world has its origin and end. He argued that the same rule would apply to political parties as well.

Stating that political parties did not exist in the modern sense under primitive communism, slavery and feudal system, he said the capitalist and working-class parties were born with the development of capitalism.

Stating that the communist party has three historic responsibilities, Khanal said first, to complete the people’s revolution, second to complete the socialist revolution and thirdly to take the society to communism by building socialism. He was of the view that after fulfilling these responsibilities, the need for the communist party would also end.

Khanal claimed that the existing capitalist system would not be able to solve the problems of corruption, exploitation, injustice and atrocities.
