Godavari Sunrise International Convention Centre worth Rs 81 crore destroyed in fire

. The Sunrise International Convention Centre in Godavari, Lalitpur, has been destroyed after arson and vandalism during the Gen-G movement. In the violent incident that took place on September 10, a fire broke out in the main meeting hall of the convention center, causing the roof collapsed and causing major damage to glass, interior structures and other physical infrastructure.

It is said that the demonstrators targeted the convention centre using the pretext that the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had inaugurated the structure and the CPN (UML) statute general convention was held in the same hall from September 20 to 22.TAG_OPEN_div_61

The convention center is built on 43 ropanis and 15 annas of Godavari and has a capacity to accommodate around 3,000 spectators and participants.TAG_OPEN_div_58 The Ministry of Urban Development had laid the foundation stone of the building on October 21, 2019 and it was inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Oli on May 14, 2021.

} Initially, the cost of the project was about Rs 62 crore, but the cost of the project increased to about Rs 81 crore. KC-Samanantar JV was awarded the contract for the construction of the project and its construction period was extended twice.

The convention center has been operating since July 2 TAG_OPEN_div_52 078 through the International Convention Center Development Committee. Earlier, the issue of encroachment of 100 ropanis 1 anna and 3 paisa of land acquired by giving compensation for the convention centre had been raised.

The damage caused to this modern infrastructure built for the conduct of government programs, national and international meetings and conferences has caused a huge financial loss to the state.
