Kathmandu. CPN-UML lawmaker Ganesh Singh Thagunna has expressed his concern over Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s remarks on the Nepal-India border dispute.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, lawmaker Thagunna said protecting the country’s sovereignty, national self-respect and territorial integrity was the government’s main responsibility.
“It is the responsibility of the government to protect the country’s self-respect, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The government of all countries prioritizes protecting the territorial integrity of their respective countries. ’
He said that the struggle of Nepal’s ancestors has ensured Nepal’s territorial integrity and national identity.
He claimed that India has encroached around four hundred square kilometers of Nepali land including Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura.
He said the presence of Indian security forces in the area, construction of roads, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and trade with Tibet were being carried out.
He stressed that the government’s view on a sensitive issue like the border issue should be clear, fact-based and in line with the national interest.
Thagunna said Nepal should take special diplomatic initiative to resolve the issue of border encroachment.
