Department warns govt not to sell and distribute banned items

Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection of the Government of Nepal has issued a stern warning to all not to sell and distribute items that are legally banned.

Issuing a notice on Monday, the Department warned all stakeholders that the unauthorized import, storage and sale of banned goods is illegal.

According to Section 3 (1) of the Export Import (Control) Act, 2013, the government has imposed a complete or quantitative ban on the import and export of certain goods by publishing a notice in the Nepal Gazette at different times. According to the department, Notification published in the Gazette on various dates including 2076/03/02 and 2076/12/24 has stipulated conditions or fixed periods or completely prohibited the import of such goods.

However, the Department has received complaints and complaints that such goods banned by the government are still being sold in the market not only physically but also through various digital platforms (online medium). The department has also said that its serious attention has been drawn to the trade of banned goods in this way.

The Department has directed all importers, hoarders and sellers to operate their trade and business only by fully abiding by the obligations and terms and conditions as stipulated by the law. The department has warned of stern action as per the Export Import (Control) Act, 2013, Consumer Protection Act, 2075 and other prevailing laws if found violating the law.
