Kathmandu. Gen-G activist Miraj Dhungana has questioned the current political developments, security situation, employment crisis and the working style of the government and urged the government to work as per the spirit of the movement. Addressing a press conference of Gen-G activists, Dhungana said that during his visit to India, he did not get an opportunity to know about the Gen-G movement there. He said that he was happy with the success of the youth movement in India and respected the achievements of the youth of any country for change.

Referring to the statement made by a Gen-G activist from India that their movement was different from the Gen-G movement of Nepal and Bangladesh, he said such comments saddened him.

“It’s good that your movement is successful, but it doesn’t mean to belittle or undermine others,” he said. Dhungana expressed concern over the incident of firing and community clashes that took place at Dewangunj rural municipality of Sunsari while returning from India. He blamed that necessary steps were not taken in time even though information about the possible conflict had reached the local level and the security bodies. “The main responsibility of the Home Ministry is to maintain peace and security. Why was attention not taken in time to prevent such a situation from happening?” he asked.

He said that the state should be more alert to prevent recurrence of religious and community conflicts. He also stressed the need to maintain religious tolerance in the society. Referring to the situation of youths going abroad for employment, Dhungana said that the government should create employment within the country. Referring to his meeting with some Nepali workers who were going to Qatar, he said they were disappointed that they would not get opportunities in the country. “One of the main essences of this movement is to create a situation where people can live and eat in this country,” he said. He said the recent incidents of suicides should not be taken lightly and should be taken as a sign of social and economic despair. Dhungana warned that if the government failed to work as per the people’s expectation, a situation would be created to go against the spirit of the movement.
