Trump says Iran war is a blueprint for ending war

Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has said that allies in the Middle East have agreed on a preliminary framework for an agreement to end hostilities with Iran, hinting that he will not launch any new military strikes.

In a series of social media posts on Saturday, Trump

said the proposed deal would include keeping the Strait of Hormuz “fully open” and ending Iran’s nuclear threat.

“If an agreement is reached soon, I stand ready to desist from an attack on the future of the world, and for a prosperous Iran,” Trump wrote.

According to him, Israel has also supported the US effort to reach a deal with Iran to end the war. However, there was no immediate reaction to Trump’s announcement.

This is the latest unexpected twist in the five-month-long conflict. A day earlier, Trump had indicated that Iran was preparing to launch a massive military strike again to force Iran to come to the talks.

The United States and Israel began military action against Iran on February 28. Trump said at the time that the goal was to destroy Iran’s missile capability, halt its nuclear weapons development, and end support for Iranian-backed armed groups. However, the objectives and tactics of warfare have changed over time.

A permanent deal was expected after an interim ceasefire in mid-June. But the ceasefire was broken weeks after ships were attacked again in the Strait of Hormuz.

Saudi Arabia’s concern

Trump’s announcement came after a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. According to sources familiar with the discussions, the crown prince expressed concern about the possibility of a US-Iran conflict escalating.

According to sources, the Saudi side is worried that if the US attacks Iran’s energy infrastructure, bridges or power facilities, Iran could retaliate by targeting Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries’ energy infrastructure.

The crown prince had asked Trump to give clear information about the possible steps the US could take against Iran. A White House official confirmed the meeting between the two leaders but did not release the details.

Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia joined the US crackdown on the logistics and weapons storage facilities of Iran-backed groups in Iraq. At the same time, it has also urged the US and Iran to return to talks.

The crown prince sent his brother Khalid bin Salman to Washington to discuss a strategy for Iran. He met separately with Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Meanwhile, Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Tuesday. It was the first face-to-face meeting between the two men since the war began in February. Netanyahu has called for the continuation of the military campaign against Iran.

Political pressure leading up to the election

The battle is also becoming politically challenging for the Trump administration as the US midterm elections in November approach. The conflict, which has also affected the global economy, is not popular in the US public opinion.

Earlier this week, Trump threatened to retaliate after Iran thwarted a missile attack on a US military base in Jordan.

On Friday, he said “we want to win” and would strike Iran “very hard” if necessary. White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement and striking commercial ships and US soldiers.

U.S. officials were on high alert before Trump’s latest announcement. Trump said in a social media post that the US military was fully prepared and capable of taking immediate action if necessary. Meanwhile, the US State Department has issued a heightened security alert for American citizens in 10 Middle Eastern countries in view of the escalating tensions with Iran.
