Citizenship certificate issued in mother’s name for the first time in Sarlahi

Kathmandu. Sarlahi District Administration Office has issued citizenship certificates in the name of mothers for the first time in its history. Ram Manohar Gupta of Lalbandi Municipality-7 has been granted naturalized citizenship in the name of his mother.

Chief District Officer Ramuraj Kandariya said that Gupta was granted citizenship on the basis of the second amendment to the Nepal Citizenship Act, 2063 and the fourth amendment to the Citizenship Rules-2063.TAG_OPEN_p_9

Stating that the citizenship certificate was issued in the name of the mother for the first time on Monday after the implementation of the amended Act and Regulations, CDO Kandariya said that the citizenship has been opened for the children born to foreign fathers and Nepali mothers whose father’s identity is not known.TAG_OPEN_p_8 It is expected that this will solve the problem of many Nepali children who have not been holding citizenship for a long time in the district.

Stating that he had sent a circular to all 20 local levels of the district two weeks ago for the implementation of the amendment act, CDO Kandariya said the citizenship certificate was issued after fulfilling the necessary documents as per the same process.TAG_OPEN_p_7

He expressed the belief that the problems of the citizens who are facing difficulties in employment, opening bank accounts and using SIM cards despite having education and skills due to lack of citizenship would be resolved now.TAG_OPEN_p_6

Reacting to receiving the citizenship, Ram Manohar Gupta expressed his happiness over becoming a Nepali citizen.TAG_OPEN_p_5 “The struggle of a child born to a Nepali citizen mother to prove himself to be Nepali was very painful and challenging,” he said.
