26,000 security personnel to be deployed for monsoon response this year

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has unveiled a plan for disaster response during this year’s monsoon.

The NRA has made public the action plan approved by the 34th meeting of the Executive Committee. On May 14, the Executive Committee led by Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal had approved the response action plan.

According to the Monsoon Preparedness and Response National Action Plan-2083, the responsibilities of various ministries and security agencies have been fixed for the response by forecasting the possible risk of monsoon-induced disasters this year. Potential risks have been assessed by analysing past data to make the response more effective.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has planned to mobilize 26,000 security personnel for the disaster response this time.

NRA Under-Secretary Ram Bahadur KC said that the meeting approved the action plan to deploy 26,000 security personnel from Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force during monsoon-induced disasters. “An action plan has been approved to deploy 26,000 security personnel in the field with the onset of monsoon”, he said. ’

The action plan has been implemented to make the response effective by predicting the possible risk of monsoon-induced disasters by analyzing the past disaster incidents and impact data. In order to minimize the damage, the NRA has assessed the past incidents and where the impact of monsoon would lie this time.

It is estimated that 51,000 households would be affected by monsoon-induced disasters this year. “We are mobilizing 14,000 volunteers in the possible places,” he said. ’

The Disaster Management Fund has Rs 7.56 billion in reserve. The amount that is in the fund of the district, province and central governments will be spent for disaster response, rescue and relief in coordination with the NRA.
