Road safety is common responsibility of all, not just police: IGP Karki

Kathmandu. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has said road safety is not only the responsibility of the police but also a common responsibility of the government, media, private sector and civil society.

Speaking at the 14th anniversary of Metro Traffic FM 95.5 MHz organized at Nepal Police Club in Kathmandu on Friday, he praised Metro Traffic FM for continuing its broadcasting with new energy after the reconstruction.

He said, “Despite the condition of the Traffic FM’s resources and building being reduced to ashes during the agitation, Metro Traffic FM continued its broadcasting journey with new energy along with the reconstruction and maintaining its commitment to the citizens.” It was not allowed to be blocked. ’

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Karki said that there should not be a mindset to consider road safety as the responsibility of the police only.

“I don’t want to develop a narrative that road safety is primarily done by the police,” he said. In all other countries, road safety is the responsibility of all of us. It’s the same with us. Roads are safe and we are all safe when it is understood as the common responsibility of different levels of government, concerned agencies, information media, private sector and civil society. Ultimately, that’s what we want. For this, continuous cooperation and coordination with the stakeholders is imperative. ’
